On Being a Vessel

2 Corinthians 4:7 ESV
But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

We have God’s power inside of each of us, but our bodies are mere jars made of clay.

We struggle.
We have difficulty.
We fail.
We become overwhelmed.
We are weak.
We are easily broken.
And the list goes on.

But this is for a purpose! It is best that way, so that others may see that the power within us is not from ourselves, but from our God! Any greatness and power that we may show has nothing to do with us. We have nothing that was not given to us by God (1 Corinthians 4:7; John 3:27; James 1:17). Therefore, He should be glorified for all that we do.

I have a natural desire to want the glory for the things I do. This verse helps me to remember that I should bring glory to Him and not to myself, for I could never do the things I do without His power.

I am only a jar of clay, a vessel for His use.
